JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF) Bogasari Division operated its second solar power plant (PLTS) at its Jakarta factory on Tuesday (11/25/2025). This operation continues the first installation built at the Cibitung factory in Bekasi in 2022. Erwin Sudharma, Deputy Head of the Bogasari Division, stated that this initiative demonstrates the company's commitment to consistently implementing the concept of a green industry. “The inauguration of the second PLTS marks a special moment ahead of Bogasari's 54th anniversary as Indonesia's first wheat flour mill. The Cibitung plant is the first flour milling facility in Indonesia to utilize solar energy as a renewable energy source,” Erwin said in a press release.
The Bogasari Jakarta Solar Power Plant has an installed capacity of 1.88 megawatts-peak (MWp) and is capable of generating 1,920,000 kWh of electricity per year. This energy replaces part of the factory's electricity needs and reduces carbon emissions by up to 1,350 tons of CO?e per year, equivalent to planting 22,346 trees. Bogasari's Vice President of Engineering and Technology, Andry Wiryanto, explained that the capacity of the solar power plant in Jakarta will still be increased.
“Bogasari Jakarta plans to increase its solar power plant capacity to a total of 4 MWp,” said Andry. According to Andry, the idea to develop a solar power plant in Jakarta has been in the works since 2022 and will be implemented in stages, starting with structural reinforcement of the building in 2024 and followed by the installation of solar panels throughout 2025 in collaboration with contractor PT Aruna Cahaya Pratama. Bogasari aims to use solar energy in all of its production facilities, including factories in Surabaya, Tangerang, and Medan. “The purpose of utilizing solar power plants is to reduce global warming while supporting the National Million Solar Movement that has been promoted by the government since 2017,” said Erwin. The PLTS inauguration took place at the Bogasari Tanjung Priok factory in North Jakarta, attended by Indofood Director and Bogasari Division Head Franciscus Welirang, Bogasari Deputy Division Head Erwin Sudharma, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Bobby Aryanto, and other members of the Bogasari management team.
A total of 3,410 photovoltaic (PV) modules are installed in the finished product storage and operational support areas. Energy from the solar power plant is also used to power 22 battery-powered forklifts with a capacity of 20 kW. As a comparison, the solar power plant at the Cibitung factory has a capacity of 1 MWp with an energy production of 1.11 million kWh per year and has directly supported the Mill A and Mill B production lines since 2022.
