The Largest Ground-Mounted Solar Power Plant in Indonesia Finally Built in Purwakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWAKARTA -- PT PLN (Persero) Group, through its subsidiary PLN Batam, is collaborating with PT Aruna Cahaya Pratama (Aruna PV) in the construction of the largest ground-mounted solar power plant in Indonesia with a capacity of 100 Megawatt peak (MWp). This collaboration is a concrete example of PLN's partnership with the private sector to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions while enhancing industrial competitiveness.

Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P Hutajulu, said that this project is a concrete manifestation of the synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector in realizing the provision of clean energy.

“This event is a historic milestone and tangible proof of the synergy between the government, SOEs, and the private sector in providing electricity through renewable energy,” said Jisman, quoting a written statement on Saturday (10/28/2023).

He appreciated the formation of this collaboration and hoped that this project would serve as an example for the development of new and renewable energy in the country.

“We, from the government, greatly appreciate this collaboration. Everyone has a role to play. This is a good example for similar projects in the future,” he said.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that amid the warming climate, joint efforts are needed at the global level.

“Therefore, we have a shared mission to save the earth, but at the same time, we must also maintain economic growth, create jobs, and improve the welfare of the people,” said Darmawan.

Darmawan said that this solar power plant development project is also part of PLN's support in boosting industrial competitiveness. Amidst the current global demand for clean energy, domestic industries also need a supply of green electricity so that the products they produce have added value.

"Electricity, which is the heart of the economy, is not only about a reliable power supply, but also about increasing competitiveness. PLN fully supports the growth of Indonesian industry through environmentally friendly electricity supply," said Darmawan.

The construction of this 100 MWp solar power plant will use around 170 thousand solar panel modules with a ground-mounted system, spread across five locations covering an area of more than 85 hectares in the Bukit Indah Industrial City area.

Aruna PV President Director Audwin Purwadi said that the Bukit Indah industrial area is a growing industrial area. Currently, many multinational companies require a clean electricity supply as one of the requirements for running their operations.

“This solar power plant project can be realized because PLN has provided an opportunity to collaborate in the utilization of new and renewable energy. PLN's collaboration with Aruna in this project is also supported by PT Tatajabar Sejahtera (TJS) as the offtaker, and PT Besland Pertiwi as the project landowner,” said Audwin.

The construction of this solar power plant, added Audwin, will have a substantial economic impact, as it can create jobs, provide local business opportunities, and support economic growth in the surrounding area.

“The construction of a 100 MWp solar power plant is a manifestation of our commitment to the country to be a pioneer in the utilization of renewable energy sources and to play a role in the transition to more sustainable energy sources,” said Audwin.
